Fatal Calgary hit-and-run: Police searching for second driver

Calgary police are searching for the driver of the second vehicle as they investigate a fatal hit-and-run in the Forest Heights community.

This happened on Saturday, May 18 at approximately 12:30 am.

Police say the victim, a man in his 70s, was using the marked crosswalk at the intersection of 47th Street and Memorial Drive SE when he was struck by a black BMW X5 traveling eastbound on Memorial Drive.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver drove away before police arrived, eventually abandoning the vehicle.

Police said Thursday that a second car, a white sedan, was believed to have been driving alongside the black BMW before the collision.

“While we are still reviewing the evidence in this case, it appears that the BMW that was involved in the collision overtook the white sedan before striking the pedestrian,” Sergeant Colin Foster said in a news release.

“We believe the driver of the white sedan may have information important to our investigation.”

Anyone with information about the crash or video footage of the crash is asked to call police at 403-266-1234.
