Calgary police are looking for a witness to a pedestrian hit-and-run incident

Calgary police are searching for the driver of a second vehicle believed to be involved in a pedestrian collision last weekend.

According to police, around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, May 18, a man in his 70s was walking northbound on SE 47th Street in the marked crosswalk and crossed Memorial Drive SE.

Meanwhile, a black BMW X5 was approaching SE 47th Street on Memorial Drive SE when it struck a man, who died at the scene.

The driver of the BMW left the scene before officers arrived and continued eastbound before abandoning the vehicle, which officers located a short time later, police said.

After reviewing the evidence from the scene and talking to the witnesses, the police said that before the collision, a white sedan was driving next to the black BMW.

Investigators are asking for the public's help in identifying the driver of the white sedan.

“While we are still reviewing the evidence in this case, it appears that the BMW involved in the collision overtook the white sedan before striking the pedestrian,” said Sgt. Colin Foster of the CPS Collision Reconstruction Unit said in a statement. “We believe the driver of the white sedan may have information important to our investigation.”

Police are also looking for anyone with information about the collision or has CCTV footage from the area.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 403-266-1234 or report anonymously through CrimeStoppers.
