Calgary is officially closing its Inglewood Aquatic Centre

The City of Calgary is expected to announce the permanent closure of the Inglewood Aquatic Center on Thursday.

The center first opened in the 1960s and featured a six-lane, indoor pool, water climbing wall, dry sauna and multi-purpose room.

Before the pandemic, saving the inner-city pools made headlines as thousands signed petitions to save the Inglewood and Beltline facilities.

The Beltline Aquatic and Fitness Center closed two years ago.

In the past, councilors have expressed an interest in providing the inner city with similar suburban development and there is an opportunity to visit this morning.

A press conference of the city authorities is scheduled for 9:30 in the morning
