Woman stabbed to death in downtown apartment; Suspect in custody: Winnipeg police

A 29-year-old man faces charges of second-degree murder in connection with the death of a 37-year-old woman in a downtown apartment Friday night.

The victim has been identified as Rachael Muswagon, who is of Norwegian House Cree descent and lives in Winnipeg.

Winnipeg Police say the accused and the victim know each other.

Police said they were called to an apartment complex on Sargent Avenue near Kennedy Street around 7:45 p.m. for a report of a woman stabbed.

Officers found Muswagon with a serious stab wound. He was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead.

Officers detained the man inside the apartment “without incident” and the homicide unit took over the investigation, police said.

Dustin Cody Swampy was charged and arrested.
