Winnipeg murder: Arrest made in tragic stabbing

Summary of the event:

WINNIPEG – NEWS – On May 17, 2024, at approximately 7:45 p.m., Winnipeg Police responded to an emergency call at an apartment complex in the 400 block of Sargent Avenue. An adult woman was reported stabbed.

Police action and investigation:

Central District Chief Patrol Police officers arrived in time and found the victim with serious stab wounds. Emergency personnel arrived and provided emergency medical care until he was taken to the hospital. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

An adult male suspect was arrested at the scene. The homicide unit took over the investigation and identified the victim as 37-year-old Rachel Muswagon, a member of the Norwegian Haus Cree Nation living in Winnipeg. His family has been notified.

Suspicious details:

Dustin Cody Swampy, 29, has been charged with second-degree murder and remains in custody. Authorities confirmed that the suspect and the victim knew each other.
