“As officers approached the residence, a black sedan was observed fleeing the area,” police added.

“Investigators later learned that this vehicle was stolen during an armed carjacking in Calgary on November 10, 2023.”

As a result of the investigation, four other suspects were identified and charged, and another weapon was seized, police said.

Three Saskatchewan residents and two Toronto residents have been charged.

Police released pictures of the accused and said they could only be identified by their street names. Officers have urged anyone with more information to come forward.

Meanwhile, the province's police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), also investigated the incident, which resulted in an officer-involved shooting. The SIU determined that “there is no valid reason to believe that the employee committed a criminal offense in connection with the shooting.”
