Recently hired Calgary scheduler GM Tim Keane has resigned

After just six weeks on the job, Tim Keen, the recently hired planning and development major-general, has handed in his resignation from the City of Calgary, LiveWire Calgary has learned.

Keane started on April 1, 2024, after the recruitment was announced on February 15, 2024. He saw Calgary through a recent public hearing on a city-wide rezoning approved by Calgary City Council.

The city said Keane's departure was due to family and personal circumstances.

“Out of respect for Tim's privacy, we will not share any other details. We wish him and his family well. The well-being of our employees and their families is important to our shared goal of improving lives every day,” the City of Calgary said in a statement.

The city conducted what it called a “robust hiring process” that led to Keane's hiring. He was hired after serving in Boise, Idaho, Atlanta, Georgia and Charleston, South Carolina.

“We were really surprised by the number of applicants, the number and interest from local and international applicants, that attracted this position,” said David Duckworth, Calgary's chief administrative officer at the time.

“This reflects our Department of Planning and Development's outstanding reputation as a leader in the industry.”

In an April 19 interview with local media, Keane said he was drawn to Calgary because he was compelled by the amount of work being done in the city, the professionalism and quality of the organization.

“I think Calgary is an interesting city as an urban place and the landscape around it,” he said.

“I was attracted to the quality of the place.”

The City of Calgary said Keane's resignation was unexpected and unexpected.

“We look forward to working with him and benefiting from his expertise in urban planning and development,” the city's response said.

Debra Hamilton, Director of Community Planning for the City of Calgary, will be acting General Manager of Planning and Development Services on an interim basis. Hamilton took on the role after former scheduler GM Stuart Dalglish took over as Calgary's chief operating officer.

Plans to fill the role of GM of Planning and Development Services are forthcoming, the City of Calgary said.
