Charged with second-degree murder: Winnipeg police

A 29-year-old man has been charged in connection with a stabbing at a Winnipeg apartment complex.

Friday night, police were called to a building in the 400 block of Sargent Avenue for a report of a woman who had been stabbed.

Officers found the woman suffering from “serious stab wounds.”

The police provided emergency medical aid to the victim and waited for the ambulance to arrive.

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later died.

She has been identified as 37-year-old Rachel Muswagon. He was of Norwegian Haus Cree descent, but lived in Winnipeg.

Police arrested a male suspect inside the apartment without incident.

Dustin Cody Swampy, 29, has been charged with second-degree murder.

Police say the victim and the suspect knew each other.

He was imprisoned in a temporary detention facility.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.
