Calgary's housing strategy is working, the city says

Calgary City Council will learn the impact of a new housing strategy adopted in September during an update Wednesday.

A report on the level of the city in the implementation of the strategy and the current state of the housing situation is presented to the consultants.

Despite the city's worsening housing crisis in Calgary, he says the strategy provides programs and policies to build more homes and support non-profit organizations.

The city says that about 80 percent of the actions in the housing strategy will begin by the end of 2024.

Work has started in the city on 64 out of 98 events.

While this is good news on the road to progress, city officials estimate that at least five Calgary households currently cannot afford their current housing.

Rents across the province rose again this month, up 16.2 per cent from this time last year, nearly double the national average.

The Council will receive such updates on the strategy each year.

The full version of the presentation can be found on the city's website.
