Calgary to Tulum: WestJet is adding new flights to Mexico this winter

Summer is on the horizon, but if you've been wondering about winter and how to escape the cold in Calgary, a new WestJet flight ad might give you some ideas.

The Calgary-based airline has announced several new flights this year to hot destinations from various airports around the country.

Calgarians can expect weekly flights to Tulum's newly opened airport beginning November 9.

Other big Canadian cities to get new flight routes to sunny destinations include Toronto, Kelowna and Winnipeg.

“Consolidating our position as the nation's leading leisure airline, WestJet Group will provide more seat capacity than any other airline this winter,” said John Weatherill, WestJet Group executive vice president and chief commercial officer.

Flights from Toronto to Tulum will become more frequent, with three flights per week beginning in November. If you're looking to go somewhere warm outside of Mexico, WestJet is also adding a weekly flight to Grenada in the Caribbean starting Nov. 3.

“With the addition of this new route, the WestJet Group is expanding Canadians' access to Grenada, inviting them to explore the vibrant culture, pristine beaches and beautiful scenery of the Spice Island. We are thrilled to partner with WestJet in welcoming travelers to discover the charm and hospitality of Grenada,” said Petra Roach, CEO of the Grenada Tourism Authority.

For Canadians looking to travel to exotic destinations outside of Toronto, there are several carefully timed connecting flights to help them reach their sunny shores.
