Calgary CTrain service changes May weekend

CTrain users will see some big changes affecting the service over the May weekend.

From Saturday, May 18 through the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 21, all downtown stations along Seventh Avenue will be closed, as well as Victoria Park/Stamped Station and several surrounding stations.

Shuttle buses will replace CTrain service between affected stations, and full CTrain service will return by May 21.

Affects Red Line and Blue Line service.

Stations affected include Sunnyside, 8 Street, 7 Street, 6 Street, 4 Street, 3 Street, 1 Street, Center Street, City Hall/Bow Valley College, Victoria Park/Stampede, Erlton/Stampede, 39 Avenue, Bridgeland/Memorial, Downtown Enter West. /Kerby, Sunalta, Shaganappie Point and Westbrook.

The work affects not only CTrain service, but also pedestrians and drivers.

“Those attending events at Stampede Park over the long weekend should allow extra time to get to their destinations via 12 Avenue SE or 25 Avenue SE,” officials said in a Monday news release.

Saturday, May 18 from 2:00 p.m.:

  • The Macleod Trail crosswalks at SE 17th and SE 14th Avenues will be closed. Pedestrians and bicyclists will turn onto 12 Avenue SE or 25 Avenue SE to enter Stampede Park.
  • An extra lane on northbound McLeod Highway will be closed between the Lock River Bridge and 12th Avenue SE, leaving two northbound lanes open at all times. Enter Stampede Park from 25 Avenue SE or use alternate routes when possible.

The closures are expected to end at 4 a.m. Tuesday, May 21

The rest of the territories will change by June

Other redevelopment work in the area will require pedestrian and vehicle detours over the next few months.

Starting Monday, May 13 and running through June:

The 14 Avenue SE crosswalk at Macleod Trail will be closed to accommodate construction on the Victoria Park/Stamped Station redevelopment project. Pedestrian access from McLeod Trail to Stampede Park and Victoria Park/Stamped Station is provided via 17 Avenue SE and 12 Avenue SE.
