A gazelle theft is under investigation in Manitoba

The province has completed an investigation into a viral social media post that claimed fish was stolen from a Winnipeg woman's mother.

A post published last week said a woman took two chicks from a mother goose in the city's Transcona district.

A government spokesman said the incident had been investigated and the conservation officer had issued a warning based on the “circumstances and mitigating factors”.

A spokesman said the government would not release any further information.

“The public is reminded that the best advice is always to leave wildlife alone,” the spokesman said. “Even if the animal or bird doesn't have a mother, they usually do, and interacting with them can make things worse.”

The province says anyone with concerns about wildlife-human interactions can call the Poacher Return Line at 1-800-782-0076.
