2024 Olympics: Manitobans go to Paris

The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris are just over two months away, and so far Canada has a pair of Manitobans representing it.

Winnipeg's Skylar Park became the first Manitoban to qualify for Paris.

The 24-year-old taekwondo player will celebrate his second Olympics. He achieved many milestones in his career when he won gold in the 59kg category at the 2016 World Junior Taekwondo Championships. In the same year, he became a bronze medalist in the Pan American Championship in the 57 kg category. He also won three gold medals at the 2018, 2021 and 2022 championships.

He won silver at the Pan American Games in 2019 and gold in 2023.

In his first Olympic experience in Tokyo in 2020, he managed to reach the quarterfinals.

The second Manitoban on the list is Kelsey Waugh, also from Winnipeg.

He will be swimming in his second Olympic Games after his debut in Tokyo.

At the 2020 Canadian Olympic Swimming Trials, Vogue won the 100-meter breaststroke, as well as the 200-meter and silver in the 200-meter individual medley.

He made it to the semi-finals of the 200m breaststroke at the 2020 Olympics.

Waugh won a gold medal for his role in the 4x100m freestyle relay at the 2017 Universiade.

The University of Manitoba graduate also won U Sports Athlete of the Year, Swimmer of the Year and was named an Academic All-Canadian in 2019-20.
