There are nesting Canada Geese chicks outside the Calgary clinic

A mother goose that made herself at home in a large flowerpot near a Calgary dental clinic now has her babies waiting.

A week ago, the goose sat on the eggs while her protective partner stood guard nearby, but now the chicks have hatched.

Employees at Grinn Dental Hygiene call the geese Mr. and Mrs. Na'a, named after the street where the clinic is located.

There were six eggs and at least five appeared to have hatched.

Greenn office manager Kathleen Kinsella says this isn't the first time the geese have come to land.

“They're very particular about where they move, where they stop and where they nest,” Sarah Jordan-McLachlan explained in an interview with CTV News.

“They mate for life, so the same pair comes back again and again.”

The geese took up residence in a perch outside Calgary's Green Dental Hygiene, much to the delight of staff and patrons.Jordan-McLachlan notes that birds can protect their mates and children.

“Give them as much space as you can,” he said.

Five minutes from Greene Dental Hygiene is Winsport's Markin McPhail Arena, where another pair of geese was at home in another planter, warming up some eggs.

Although the staff predicted we would see swallows on Mother's Day, the eggs did not appear to have hatched.

According to Winsport reporter Dale Oviatt, no babies have been spotted.

“He's very territorial,” she warned. “We think we're going to make sure dad is getting close and no one else is getting close.”
