A man has died in a hit-and-run on Memorial Drive

A 70-year-old man was hit and run in Southeast Saturday morning and Calgary police are searching for the driver.

CityNews was told the incident happened around 12:20 a.m. at Memorial Drive and 47th Street.

They say the man was traveling north on 47th Street and crossed Memorial Drive when an SUV was approaching 47th Street eastbound on Memorial Drive when it struck the man.

Investigators say the driver drove east from the scene before abandoning his vehicle.

They found the dead body of the man at the scene and the car soon after. The driver is still being sought.

Excessive speed is being investigated as a factor in this crash.

No arrests have been made at this time.

Officers closed Memorial Drive between 44th and 52nd streets and reopened the road after checking the area.

Police are asking anyone with dash cam footage from the incident to call 403-266-1234 or leave a tip anonymously. Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
