The difference when the Big Six Monarchs fell to Winnipeg

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Paratroopers drop thousands of feet before a game. Fireworks lit up the night sky after the game, but a big sixth inning gave the Winnipeg Goldeyes a win over the Kansas City Monarchs at Legends Field.


The Monarchs dropped the second game of a four-game set against the Winnipeg Goldeyes at Legends Field, 6-4. All six Winnipeg runs came in the sixth by three different Monarchs pitchers.

Former major leaguer Efri Ramirez hit his prime early for Kansas City. The right-hander struck out the side in the second inning and induced a two-run double play in his first four frames.

Ramirez found cruise control for the second time through the order, striking out a pair in the fifth inning. The 30-year-old closed with a season-high six strikeouts on Friday night.

The Monarchs' (4-3) starters have now combined to throw 10-plus innings in this series, allowing just three earned runs.

Cameron Cannon got off to a good start by Ramirez early, smashing a three-run home run over the left-field wall in the first inning. Ross Adolph drove in another run with a see-saw single in the fourth.

Cannon's home run was his first for the club. Third baseman to four RBI in this series.

Winnipeg got all it needed in one frame, plating six runs on two hits. Dayson Croes' two-run single gave the Goldeyes (2-5) their fourth win at Legends Field in two years.

The KC bullpen did their best to contain him. Julian Garcia (1-1) and Connor Curlis combined for seven hits in the final ten, but the Monarchs registered just one base hit over the final four innings.

The Monarchs look for their fifth win of the season tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. Tickets are available for Saturday's home contest at monarchsbaseball.com.
