Former Baltimore prosecutor files for presidential pardon – Winnipeg Free Press

BALTIMORE (AP) – Former Baltimore Attorney General Marilyn Mosby apologized to the president before her sentencing for recent perjury and mortgage fraud convictions, The Baltimore Sun reports.

In a letter to President Joe Biden on Thursday, the Congressional Black Caucus supported his case and reiterated allegations that Mosby and his attorneys had a political motive for the harassment, The Sun reported.

Mosby will be sentenced next week. He asked for probation while prosecutors sought a 20-month sentence.

“As a model nation, our justice system should not be weaponized to prevent progress toward a more perfect union,” wrote Stephen Horsford, a Democrat from Nevada.

The letter says Mosby submitted his apology on Wednesday. He recently appeared on MSNBC to discuss his case.

Mosby served two terms as Baltimore State's Attorney, earning a national reputation for his progressive policies and several landmark decisions. He was charged with the 2015 shooting death of Freddie Gray, which sparked mass protests against police brutality. None have been convicted.

The federal criminal charges stem from allegations that Mosby took money out of a retirement account early due to the pandemic and then used the money for down payments on properties in Florida. Prosecutors said he repeatedly lied on mortgage applications.
