A southwest Calgary couple has been charged with assault

Police have charged last week in a fatal shooting that killed a 31-year-old woman and wounded her husband in southwest Calgary.

However, police say they are still investigating the cause of the shooting.

Nakita Baron, 31, and her husband, Talal Fuani, 46, were shot on August 18 as they drove off the road in their Bentley. The vehicle ended up in a neighbor's driveway across from the victim's home in the southwest community. Evergreen.

Baron was pronounced dead at the scene, while Fuani remains hospitalized.

Staff Sgt. Calgary Police Service Homicide Officer Shawn Gregson called the shooting “a brutal act of violence in broad daylight.”

Edmonton police have arrested Michael Tyrell Arnold, 34, of Sherwood Park, in connection with the shooting.

Calgary police have laid charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder.

Police said Arnold is in custody in Calgary.

His next court hearing is scheduled for September.
