Winnipeg Weather: Cleanup underway after thunderstorms, hail

Winnipeggers spent Thursday afternoon surveying the damage and cleaning up after a thunderstorm hit the city.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, the largest hail was reported between 4:30 and 4:50 p.m., with tony-sized hail falling in Lindenwood.

Charleswood residents reported loonie-sized hail, while White Ridge reported nickel-sized hail.

Several people shared photos of hail piling up on lawns or decks that looked like May snow.

It wasn't just houses and yards that were affected. At least one car dealership reported hail.

“It's not good to have a million-dollar product outside when it's snowing,” said Kyle Campbell, who manages Mid-Town Ford's sustainable operations.

Campbell said many of the cars in the new and used car lots were hailed and the dealership is working to see what repairs are needed.

“You have to assess the damage and get a paintless dent repair specialist here, look at some repairable areas, or assess which cars need a full paint job,” he said.

CTV News Winnipeg reached out to the Manitoba Public Insurance Company to find out how many hail claims were filed after the storm.
