This is the third time this year that a vacant home on Manitoba Avenue has gone up in flames

The morning of Friday, May 17 saw crews from the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service respond to a fire at a vacant, two-story converted residence in the 300 block of Manitoba Avenue.

The fire was reported at 5:09 a.m. Upon arrival, crews found the structure showing heavy smoke. Firefighters initially fought the flames from outside the building due to the intensity of the fire and launched a defensive attack.

Once conditions improved, crews were able to enter the residence to extinguish the remaining fire. The fire was brought under control at 6:27 a.m., a little more than an hour after the initial report.

A thorough inspection was conducted in the building, fortunately, no occupants were found and no injuries were reported.

This is not the first time housing has been in the news. The house was previously damaged by fire on March 27, 2024 and April 15, 2024. The cause of this latest fire is still under investigation.
