Calgary police are investigating a shooting outside the airport

Calgary police have arrested a man after a shooting near the Calgary International Airport on Wednesday.

Officers were called to NE Airport Road NE in the afternoon for a report of shots fired.

Calgary Airport said in a statement on X, previously posted on Twitter, that the incident happened near a cell phone parking lot, an empty space where drivers can park while waiting for friends and family to land.

Police said they arrested the suspect shortly after they arrived. Two injured people were taken to the hospital.

Police said the incident was “targeted” and stemmed from a traffic collision near the airport before ending near a mobile phone.

A taxi driver waiting near the area filmed the violence.

In the video, a man can be seen lying face down on the sidewalk with another man standing on top of him. A third man yells at him asking why he got the gun. You see a fourth man with a gun in his right hand.

Investigators confirmed the gun was real.

The investigation closed several lanes of traffic in the area, causing backups and delays. Police have not said if charges will be filed.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 403-266-1234. Tips can be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
