A serial sex offender linked to murders in Calgary in the mid-1970s

Genetic evidence allowed RCMP to determine that Gary Sreri was responsible for the deaths of 14-year-old friends Eva Dvorak and Patsy McQueen, as well as 20-year-old Melissa Rehorek and 19-year-old Barbara McLean in the winter of 1976. .

Sreeri was in his early thirties at the time of the murder. After being released on bail on rape charges in California, Sreri illegally entered Canada in 1974 and moved to Lower Mainland B.C., living in Calgary for four years. He was arrested in New Westminster in 1998 for sexual assault and served five years in prison. Sreri was then deported to the United States, where he died in an Idaho prison in 2011.

RCMP Inspector Brenne Brown is concerned that Srerey has been responsible for more violent crimes.
