WWE, AEW and UFC cards are possible for Calgary this summer

Looks like there's going to be a lot of commotion at the Saddledome this summer.

Journalist Ariel Helwani tweeted on Tuesday that there are plans to move UFC 289 to Calgary on June 10.

That, Helwani added, would have been a good result for UFC 149 in 2012, when numerous last-minute changes to the card resulted in a terrible night of fights.

In fact, the fights were so bad that UFC president Dana White promised to go back and do it all over again.

The 2012 event drew more than 16,000 people and raised $4.1 million, but the headliners were so few that even White complained about them.

“We have to bounce back after a bad show,” he said in 2012 National mail article. “I hope we didn't leave a bad taste in Calgary's mouth. But now we're back together.

“We'll be back here.”

“These places are changing a lot these days, but it's looking good for Calgary,” Helwani added on his Twitter account. “Hopefully it will be in Alberta and Canada. It would be the first post-pandemic UFC event in Canada.”

The UFC card would be the first of a trio of summer slugfests: an All Elite Wrestling (AEW) card at the Saddledome on July 15, followed by a World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Smackdown event on August 11.

The AEW House Rules match will take place on July 15 in Calgary

Tickets for Smackdown go on sale Wednesday, April 5th at 10am

Tickets for the AEW card are on sale now.

UFC 289 has yet to be confirmed.
