Winnipeg man injured in attack; Police are seeking information

A 35-year-old man from the St. Teresa's Point First Nation and now living in Winnipeg has died after a serious attack on Princess Street, according to the Winnipeg Police Service.

The victim, identified as Kyle Birdie, was taken to the hospital in critical condition on the evening of May 6, 2024, from the 300 block of Princess Street. Arriving officers of the Central District Chief Patrol found that Birdie had been seriously injured during the attack.

Despite the best efforts of the medical staff, Birdie succumbed to his injuries. His death is now being treated as suspicious.

The investigation was initiated by the Department of Combating Major Crimes. Birdie's family members have been notified and an autopsy is underway to determine the exact cause of death.
