The Winnipeg Humane Society welcomes dogs from record seizures

A day after the largest animal seizure in the city's history, the Winnipeg Humane Society began accepting some of the 68 dogs into its facility for treatment. Kurt Black reports

The road to recovery begins Wednesday for 68 dogs rescued from a city home.

The dogs were rescued from a home in the Richmond West neighborhood and began arriving at the humane society Thursday morning, where they were examined by a veterinary technician before being shaved and bathed.

Despite the “inhumane conditions” they were found in, many of the dogs were in good spirits, just wanting to be held and loved.

Winnipeg Humane Society CEO Jessica Miller said, “The behavior of these animals and how they treat our staff indicates that they would be excellent candidates for adoption.”

After Wednesday's announcement, Miller said the Humane Society's phone was fielding calls from people who wanted to help, including Pet Smart, which donated the services of several sitters.

“Our employees go through a lot, it's very emotional and they're compassionately exhausted, so whenever something like this happens in the community, it's like we're behind us and we're able to make it public, I'm very grateful,” Miller said.

Humane Societies Director of Investigations Andrew Clarke said as sad as these scenarios are, he said it's a great opportunity for the public to see firsthand the incredible work that goes on every day at the Winnipeg Humane Society. cattle left.
