The Calgary Rose and Crown will reopen as The Elephant and Castle

Calgary's iconic Rose and Crown pub closed its doors last year, but the building will soon be home to another bar.

The building in the heart of the Beltline — located at 1503 Fourth St. SW — was built in the 1920s and served as a funeral home before becoming a bar in 1986.

The Rose and Crown closed in January 2023, but the site will reopen in summer 2024 as the Elephant and Castle.

Elephant and Castle is a Canadian chain of English pub-style restaurants located in Canada and the United States.

“Get Brit On at Elephant & Castle,” the company's website says.

“There's nothing warm and inviting like sitting in a pub and getting a taste of Great Britain. The old Union Jack behind the bar may be fading, but the vibe is great.

“Located steps away from Calgary's vibrant 17th Avenue and the Calgary Saddledome, we are the perfect place for a business lunch or dinner before a sporting event or concert.”
