Celebrating Five Lives, Living Over 500 Years – Winnipeg Free Press

She danced with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet in its founding year, has been married for over 60 years and has traveled in Hong Kong.

The celebration was the first gathering at the Simkin Center since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Staff felt it was important to honor Huberman and others who were unable to celebrate their 100th birthdays amid health restrictions caused by the pandemic, said Sarah Reed, assistant director of care at the Simkin Center.

“There aren't many people in the world who live to be 100 years old or meet a 100-year-old … so to be able to celebrate 500-plus years with five people is pretty amazing,” Reid said.

“They have great advice, a great sense of humor and it's great to see they still have a lot of life left in them.”

Joining Huberman's Centennial Club are Edith Allen (born April 28, 1921), Violet Nychuk (born November 24, 1921), and Adele Heidinger (born May 14, 1924). Another person, who asked not to be named, was also recognized for over 100.

Each senior was presented with a certificate celebrating their long life.

The event included performances by a pair of musicians who led the party-goers in an acoustic performance. Happy birthday Before that, the employees presented a cake to the audience.

Liberal MP Ben Carr and NDP MLA Mike Moroz sent their congratulations.
