Calgary Weather: Expect a cooler day on Friday

Thursday was a very active day in central and southern parts of Alberta.

Before noon, a storm began to blow near Cremona.

As they hunted east, the zone of instability grew stronger.

There were strong winds and heavy thunderstorms near Crossfield.

Then there was hail north of Hanna.

A funnel cloud was reported near Youngstown.

There is also a lot of lightning with these cells.

Most of the thunderstorm risk will be in areas south of Lethbridge on Friday, with a slight risk in Calgary and west around dinnertime.

Thursday night showers in Calgary will begin Friday morning and then continue for most of the day.

A couple of raindrops are less likely to return around dinner time.

Be prepared for a chilly day on Friday with temperatures in the low 10s.

Saturday will be cloudy and sunny for most of the day.

Rain will return on Sunday, with showers again on Monday (although Monday is likely to be mostly cloudy).

The highest daytime temperatures will be in the lower part of May, while the lower night and morning temperatures will be 2 to 4 degrees cooler.

Friday and Saturday are also likely to be slightly smoky, bringing us back to normal on the Air Quality Health Index.
