Calgary to launch autonomous mowing pilot project on municipal green space

160 lb robotic lawnmower used for 30 day trial

A large, 160-pound autonomous lawnmower is being tested in one of Calgary's green spaces.

The commercial mower is part of a pilot project that will be tested for 30 days. The mower is programmed with a pre-planned schedule for recharging.

The mower has a micro-mulchering component and will mow at a constant height throughout the duration of the pilot project.

It is equipped with sonar sensors to avoid obstacles in its path.

The city will review data from the pilot project to determine if additional robotic lawnmowers can be used in other cities.
