Calgary forecast and open and closed

Calgarians are used to braving all the elements for the unofficial start of summer, but what exactly should people be preparing for this May long weekend?

CityNews 660 Meteorologist Kevin Stanfield says gusty winds will cool with the expected rain on Friday and more rain is possible Saturday and Sunday.

Friday will see temperatures near 10 degrees, and daytime highs should hover around the mid- to low-teens for the rest of the weekend. The city could still see its share of sunny breaks on Saturday and Sunday.

Extended forecast and latest weather updates for Calgary can be found here.

A weekend in May also marks the start of camping season in Alberta, and Carol Henke with the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) is out with a few words of advice for those looking to enjoy the great outdoors.

He said it all starts with checking fire bans and warnings.

“Because of the high risk of fire, if you can't make a fire, you should bring an alternative cooking and heating device with you,” he says.

Information on fire restrictions and advisories in Alberta can be found here.

Weekend warriors may begin to leave town on Thursday. Listen to CityNews 660 for the latest traffic updates every 10 minutes.
