A pro-Palestinian camp was attacked by police

On May 9, 2024, Calgary police officers and Palestinian protesters clashed during a violent clearing of an encampment on the University of Calgary campus.

According to Universities in North America, students at the University of Calgary have formed a pro-Palestinian camp as a form of peaceful protest for their academic institution to take action against the genocide in Gaza.

The anti-war student protests were peaceful, diverse and inclusive, with the blessing of the Blackfoot Confederate First Nations Canadians, from whom the land on which the university was located was stolen.

Even the protestors who came to walk out with them supported these students and supported their specific demands.

We require the university to fully disclose all direct and indirect investments, as well as sources of donations to the university.

We also demand that the university fully disclose its investment decision-making process, along with the full and continued divestment of corporations that develop military technology to profit from world wars.

One of the demands made by the students was a call for an end to double standards in the university's treatment of students based on their identity.

We did not receive the same support as other students, such as Ukrainian students, regarding our mental health or needs and our safety on campus.

The university didn't even want to listen to the students and immediately called the Calgary police, who rioted, heavily armed and unnecessarily attacked the camp.

On the first day of a pro-Palestinian camp in Calgary, peaceful protesters were attacked by police with rubber bullets, tear gas and batons in what the mainstream media called a “clash.”

However, despite the lies in the mainstream media and the disbanding of the camp, the students vowed to return and work to remove their university from Israel.
