1 man shot in Market Mall parking lot

A man was shot and killed in the parking lot of Calgary's Market Mall Saturday afternoon.

The incident happened in the south parking lot near the Apple Store at around 2:14 p.m

Several witnesses told CTV News they heard three gunshots and said the man was shot while sitting in the driver's seat of a parked black Jeep.

Several bullet casings can be seen on the ground around the jeep.

The woman, who said she was a registered nurse, began performing CPR on the victim, who was lying on the ground and appeared unresponsive.

According to the Calgary Police Service, the man was taken to hospital where he died from his injuries.

The witness narrated the incident before the victim was taken to the hospital.

“We were walking up to our car and we heard three loud bangs, we saw smoke coming out, we heard packaging and we just started to panic,” said shopper Justin.

“My husband, being a first responder, went to check on her.

“I'm so scared,” she said. “I'm shaking.”

Police are looking for the driver of a white 2015-2016 Volvo XC60 seen in the area at the time of the shooting and say the driver may have information about the incident.

The owners of the shopping center, Cadillac Fairview, issued the following statement regarding the incident:

“As this is an active police investigation, we will refer all inquiries to the Calgary Police Service for comment.”

The examination is scheduled for Monday, August 14, 2023.
