Winnipeg police have charged a man with murder in November 2022

Winnipeg police have charged a 49-year-old man in connection with the November 2022 death of Delaney Nora Desmarais.

According to WPS, on November 12, 2022, at approximately 5:20 a.m., officers responded to a report of a female victim.

Arriving at the scene, law enforcement officers found a 23-year-old woman with a gunshot wound. Employees provided emergency medical care until an ambulance arrived at the scene.

Emergency workers took him to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died from his injuries. The woman was later identified as Desmarai.

Through the investigation, police identified a possible suspect in Desmarai's death and issued an arrest warrant.

On May 1, 2024, officers arrested Desmond Bignell, 49, of Clinton.

He has since been charged with murder, reckless use of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, unlawful possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm with intent.
