Winnipeg police have arrested a suspect in connection with the 2022 murder

On November 12, 2022, at approximately 5:20 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Department responded to a distress call from the 400 block of William Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found a 23-year-old woman, later identified as Delaney Nora Desmarais of Winnipeg, suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body.

Despite emergency medical treatment by officers and subsequent hospital treatment, Desmarais succumbed to his injuries. After the horrific incident, the homicide department took over the investigation.

In March 2024, an arrest warrant was issued for the manslaughter of 49-year-old Clinton Desmond Bignell, who was identified as a suspect in the case.

On May 1, 2024, officers spotted Bignell in the area of ​​Furby Street and Cumberland Avenue. He was promptly arrested on the basis of a warrant. Bignell was charged with Involuntary Manslaughter, Reckless Use of a Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Pointing a Firearm. He is currently in a detention center.
