When prosecutor Katrin Brabant made her opening statement in the trial in April, she asked the jury to note how the letters DG were tattooed on Donet's right wrist. He also asked the jury to note how the same tattoo was seen in videos posted by Doneth on social media before and after Jannai was killed.

In one of the videos posted on Instagram an hour after Jeannai's murder, two young men can be seen wearing ski masks and jumping to a rap song, while one of them is holding a knife and stabbing at the camera: “Oh, something? it was wrong with the boy.'

That speech was translated into French for the jury on Monday, along with a series of documents that included headlines from several online media outlets that reported on the murder in the days after Jannai's death.

One headline published by The Gazette: 'He shouldn't have died': Suspect arrested in stabbing death of teenager. The report was about how the minor was arrested a few weeks before Donet. Another report, viewed from The Gazette's website, carried the headline: “Teen dies after stabbing in Cote-de-Neige.”

On October 24, 2021, the phone was used to access another news site: Vigil honors life of 16-year-old stabbed in Montreal.

One of the Google search terms used on that iPhone was “cote des neige (sic) stabbing.” Another search contained the words “Montreal (Sic) 16-year-old girl stabbed to death.” The iPhone was also used to search for the phrase “160 different types of members.”

Three days after the stabbing, Donet was apparently ready to leave the province. He ran a search using the words “travel home” and the iPhone was used to search for questions such as “are there pay phones in Ottawa” and “can the police track me on ig”, a clear reference to Instagram.
