The Calgary Flames are back home after a twist on the East Road

The Calgary Flames have made as many headlines as they have on the ice during their last three-game road trip.

Most recently, TSN's Darren Dreger reported Tuesday night that forward Nazem Kadri wants to stay in Calgary, but he wants no part of the rebuild.

Kadri signed a seven-year, $49 million contract to join the Flames before last season.

He says he didn't sign off on the restructuring.

“Obviously at my age you want to win now,” the 33-year-old said.

“I came here for a chance and I feel like I still have,” he added. “It looks like we still have a great team.”

“Obviously, we probably need to win a few more than we do, but at the end of the day, we're going to put them on top of each other and find a way to get back into the playoff picture,” he said. “Obviously, it's early, but I haven't lost faith in this team.”

TAKE A LEG

Even if Kadri doesn't ask for a trade, Nikita Zadorov could be a teammate.

Following the Flames' 5-4 shootout loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday night, The X reported that Zadorov had requested a trade.

It's hard to deal with that kind of anxiety when you're trying to get back into the playoff race.

According to captain Mikael Backlund, the team has already talked about the players they want.

“We've dealt with it in the room and we've dealt with what we need to deal with, and now we're ready to focus on hockey and move on.”

DO WITH IT

The Flames took three of a possible six points in three games in Canada East.

Head coach Ryan Huska gives his team a lot of credit for sticking to the game plan.

“We got back to .500 and that's something you always strive to do,” he said.

“Now we just have to make sure we build it.”

READY FOR CANUCKS

The Flames will once again have to put all worries aside when they face one of the best teams in the league on Thursday night in the Vancouver Canucks.

Goalie Jacob Markstrom expects it to be a tough matchup.

“Good team,” he said.

“You know they have a lot of skilled guys and there were a few guys when I was there that I saw firsthand what they could do. We need a really good defensive and offensive game to come out of this with two points.”
