Quebecers can make vehicle transfers online: SAAQclic

According to the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ), the month of May sees the highest number of car transfers from one person to another – they saw more than 82,000 in 2023 alone.

SAAQ therefore encourages sellers and buyers to use the SAAQclic portal to complete their transaction online.

This portal allows people to avoid visiting service locations.

In a press release on Monday, SAAQ says the portal is “the easiest and fastest way to transfer a vehicle to an individual, in addition to allowing you to change your vehicle number.”

Customers can avoid traveling or choose a place and time that works for everyone.

Now, to proceed with the transaction, the seller and the buyer only need to create their own SAAQclic account — which can be done through the SAAQ website.

Since the introduction of SAAQclic and as of April 21, 2024, SAAQ says that more than 43,000 person-to-person vehicle transfers have been made online.

This allowed more than 87,000 customers to complete the transaction at their convenience, they said.

Customers who must visit a point of service to complete their transaction should make an appointment to avoid waiting at saaq.gouv.qc.ca/rendez-vous, the news release said.
