Changing plans to launch Calgary's largest public hearing

The largest public hearing in the city's history will begin Monday morning.

The meeting, which will focus on a strategy to transform the disputed region, will begin at 9:30 a.m. and is expected to run throughout the week.

Mayor Jyoti Gondek even told CTV Morning Live last week that she could work weekends if she needed advice.

If passed, Calgary's zoning rules would change to allow denser housing such as townhouses and duplexes to be built anywhere in the city.

About 700 people will speak during the hearing, and each of them will have five minutes to express their opinion.

Although councilors are pushing for a 12-hour day, the hearing is likely to drag on into next week.

The Council is also reviewing more than 5,500 written submissions, amounting to approximately 13,000 pages of feedback.
