Calgary Weather: Short snow showers before sunshine

The first days of winter are looking like spring as we hit a high of 10.1C on Friday, bringing us close to the record high of 13.3C set in 1899.

We will receive a brief disturbance of warm weather over the next 48 hours, including a burst of overnight waves across southern Alberta.

Some models predict the system could bring up to seven centimeters of snow to Calgary, but milder weather could see much of the snow melt on contact, making total accumulations more difficult to predict.

Snow is forecast for Calgary, Banff and Lethbridge on December 22.

Saturday and Sunday will bring us closer to the seasonal average for this time of year on the temperature front, which is above -2C, but no more snow is likely for the rest of 2023 as another ridge of high pressure moves in by Christmas. day.

As the year draws to a close, this December will be Calgary's warmest on record thanks to a particularly strong El Niño setup.
