Calgary police are investigating the shooting CTV News

A man was taken to the hospital in life-threatening condition after a shooting in the northeast community of Huntington Hills early Wednesday morning.

Police confirmed to CTV News that it happened around 6:45 a.m. when a man was found with a gunshot wound near the 200 block of 64th Avenue NE.

EMS transported the victim, a 20-year-old man, to Foothills Medical Center in life-threatening condition.

He was in stable condition, police said Wednesday afternoon.

Officers have since canvassed the area, looking for witnesses to the shooting near several condo-style units at the Metis Calgary Family Services Complex, which houses an after-school program.

Investigators taped off much of the area along Huntford Close NE and gathered around a lower basement window, where some neighbors could be heard yelling that a stray bullet had hit their home.

“It was really scary,” said Janice Mesher, who lives a few doors down.

“When I got up I heard a couple of little pops and then I heard sirens and looked out the window and saw all the cops there.”

Others, like Sushil Prasai, were worried about his family's safety.

“It was really fun, I have a kid and I know it's winter, but sometimes they play in this area so it's scary,” she said.

“This is the first I've heard of it. I've been here a year, otherwise it's been very quiet.”

Police have not released any suspect information, but believe the shooting was targeted.

“The victim and suspect(s) are known to each other,” police said. “No arrests have been made at this time and we will continue to search for the suspects in this incident.”

Anyone with information about the shooting should contact police. Tips can be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at calgarycrimestoppers.org.
