A Saturday afternoon hit-and-run in Bridgeland is under investigation

Calgary police are investigating after a hit-and-run in Bridgeland left a pedestrian hospitalized with serious, life-changing injuries Saturday afternoon.

At 2:45 p.m., police believe a man was passed out in the Centex Memorial parking lot at 12 Fourth St. NE.

While the man was there, police believe a light-colored minivan, driven by a 20-year-old man, pulled out of the parking lot and then sped off, heading north.

According to the police, when the minivan went forward, the front passenger ran over a pedestrian with a side tire.

The minivan stopped, and the driver opened the door, looked around and under the vehicle, then closed the door, pulled forward, and ran over the pedestrian, this time with the rear wheel.

After that, police said, the minivan stopped for a short time before turning east into an alley and turning north onto Edmonton Trail.

Police said the man did not know the pedestrian until he ran over it.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Speeding is not believed to be a factor, but police are investigating possible impairment.
