A Calgary man accused of terrorism wants the case dismissed because of delays

The lawyer for a Calgary man facing terrorism charges wants the case thrown out because of lengthy court delays.

34-year-old Jamal Borkhot is charged with three counts of involvement in the activities of a terrorist group.

He was accused of going to Syria in 2013 and 2014 to commit terrorist acts with the Islamic State group.

He was charged in 2020 and his trial will begin later this month.

Court documents prove that the term has exceeded the limit set by the Supreme Court.

The judge is scheduled to hear the arguments on April 15.

A co-defendant, Jamal's cousin Husein Borhot, pleaded guilty to terrorism and was sentenced to 12 years in prison.
