NYCFC ended the skid with a 1-0 win over Montreal

MONTREAL (AP) — Matias Pellegrini scored in the first half and Luis Barraza substituted as New York City FC ended an 11-game winless streak with a 1-0 win over Montreal after a 90-minute lightning delay on Saturday night.

Pellegrini's first goal of the season came in the 33rd minute when he received passes from Brian Kufri and Santiago Rodriguez and found the net.

Barraza finished with three saves to keep a clean sheet for NYCFC (5-7-9). Jonathan Sirois had six rebounds for Montreal.

Sirois' assist was Montreal's (8-10-2) first goal allowed at home in seven games. It's the second-longest home streak since Sporting Kansas City hit eight in 2000.

NYCFC come into the match without a win in their last 11 matches (0-5-6). The skid matched the club record set in 2015 — his first season in the league.

Montreal have posted 10 clean sheets in their last 17 matches in all competitions, then nine clean sheets in their previous 47 in all competitions.

NYCFC improves to 11-2-5 all-time against Montreal, including playoffs. NYCFC is 6-1-2 all-time in Montreal, including playoffs.

NYCFC has drawn five matches entering the game. Another draw would have equaled the record set by three clubs – most recently held by the Chicago Fire in 2014.

NYCFC returns home to play Charlotte FC on Wednesday. Montreal hosts Atlanta United on Saturday.
