Montreal represents sunny California for the film starring Ryan Reynolds

Montreal's Rue Ste-Catherine was transformed into a movie set last week, complete with palm trees and a vintage car, to recreate San Diego.

Action-adventure from Apple Original Films May day will be a star Ryan Reynolds and With Kenneth Branagh Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daly.

Exact plot details are being kept under wraps, but the film is set in a village in Montreal and is a re-creation of San Diego's 1980s Gaslamp Quarter.

Reynolds, a native of Vancouver, recently wrapped filming on Deadpool and Wolverine, due out in July.

His Montreal connections grew even more last year when he added Montreal-based payments company Nuvei Corp to his portfolio of business interests.

Reynolds made a marketing pitch to Nuvei when he posted a video of himself sitting at the desk of Nuvei CEO Philip Fayer at 1100 René-Lévesque Blvd. W., and pokes fun at its low profile compared to US tech leaders.
