A Palestinian encampment built downtown at McGill University awoke Monday to its second week of occupation, no closer to the goal of forcing the institution to divest itself of its interests in Israel.

The camp, which was established on April 27 and consists of dozens of tents, appeared on Monday to be set to remain in place for much longer than two weeks ago.

The protestors adapted to the muddy conditions by building sidewalks with wooden pallets and installing a drainage system to prevent them from being flooded.

Montreal police are monitoring the site, but said any intervention would be based on public safety or a threat to demonstrators.

Camp organizers say the protesters have everything they need to continue camping, including food, water, toilets, a library and a medical tent staffed by trained staff. There is also community and prayer space and a 'waiting tent' for quiet time or support for people with mental health concerns. Local community members started serving three meals a day.

Quebec Premier Francois Legault last week called for the camp to be dismantled. McGill University administration offered to meet with the protesters to discuss their demands for a no-camp clause, an offer the protesters declined.
