Canada won its second straight World Para Hockey Championship

CALGARY — Canada won its second game in as many days to open the world para-hockey championship with a 10-0 victory over Italy on Sunday.

Tyler McGregor of Forest, Ont., led the home team in scoring with four goals at WinSport Arena in Calgary.

St. John's NL's Liam Hickey opened the tournament with a pair of goals and four assists in Canada's 19-0 win over Japan.

Canada's goalkeeper Corbin Watson faced two shots from the Italians on Sunday.

The Canadians won the silver medal at the 2023 Para World Championships in Moose Jaw, Sask., losing to the USA 6-1 in the final.

The schedule gets tougher when the Canadians meet 2023 bronze medalist Czech Republic on Tuesday to close out the preliminary round.

The USA and China tied 2-0 in their pool on Sunday.

The Americans beat South Korea 11-0, and China beat Slovakia 10-0.

The semifinals are Friday and the medal games are Sunday.
