Calgary Weather: A rain warning has been issued for southern Alberta ahead of the multi-day event

Another round of moisture is coming to southern Alberta, with some areas east of the QEII and Highway 2 expecting significant accumulation in less than two days.

An overturned trough that started in Colorado will push rain northward into central and northern Alberta beginning Monday and continuing into early Wednesday.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a rainfall warning for southeastern Alberta in anticipation of steady rain and a multi-day event.

The agency noted that the bulk of the rain is expected Monday and Tuesday night, and rainfall amounts will be variable.

“The total amount of precipitation may be 50-70 mm. Locally, 80 mm or more may occur.

Calgary is expecting 10 to 20 millimeters of rain, but the upwelling nature of this system could mean those totals are higher.

Brief thunderstorms are possible as warm air from southern Alberta collides with an incoming system, and gusty winds are currently prompting wind warnings for some areas under a rainfall advisory.

Precipitation in the form of mixed rain and/or snow is possible Tuesday in the foothills and upland areas as temperatures cool.

Calgary's daytime high on Tuesday will be 9 degrees below the seasonal average.

Conditions will improve throughout the day on Wednesday, with daytime highs reaching 19C on Thursday and weekend lows in the low 20s.

The average daytime temperature in Calgary is 15C.
