Assiniboine Park's nature playground is closed for 'refreshment'

If you've been thinking about visiting Nature's Playground at Assiniboine Park for some family fun this spring – you're out of luck. The playground is temporarily closed until mid-June for improvements.

According to the Assiniboine Park Conservancy (APC), the closure will allow it to complete a number of projects.

“The Nature Field will be 13 years old this spring. “The temporary closure will allow us to complete renovations to the space, which will include renovations to a number of existing features,” a park spokesperson said in a statement.

APC confirmed to CTV that “several new units” will be added to the space.

However, don't expect a complete overhaul of the playground.

“It's an upgrade, not a complete overhaul,” APC said.

As for why the construction is taking place during the height of the park season, APC said it had no choice in the matter.

“Some work needs to be completed in warm weather, so it couldn't be done in winter,” they said.

The exact reopening date is expected to be announced in early June.
