A man rescued from the Assiniboine River on Sunday

Winnipeg Fire Paramedics rescued a man from the Assiniboine River near the Donald Street Bridge Sunday evening.

Crews were called to the scene at 5:30 p.m. because the man was being pulled by the current toward the Red River.

Paramedics examined the man before taking him to the shore and taking him to the hospital in critical condition. It is unclear how the individual got into the water and how long he had been there.

“Residents are reminded to exercise caution at all times in all Winnipeg waterways, including drainage ditches, culverts, streams, creeks, reservoirs and rivers,” the city said in a statement.

WFPS says if you see someone in the water in distress, call 911 immediately and try to track down their whereabouts.
