5 Things to Know Before Spring Giveaway Weekend

The City of Winnipeg is gearing up for one of its biggest garage sales of the season, only free.

May 11-12 is Spring Giveaway Weekend, where residents can put items in front of their homes for others to come and get for free.

“Mark them with a free sticker or something that identifies it as something you're willing to donate, and it allows someone who might need it to continue using it,” said Michael Gordichuk, the city's solid waste services manager. says Winnipeg.

Not only does it help people get things for free, Gordichuk says, “It's another way we help keep things out of the landfill.”

It's “books, CDs, DVDs, furniture, electronics, artwork, mirrors. Sports equipment and other popular toys, such as children's bicycles, work well if they are in good working order. .”

Gardening equipment and lawnmowers are also placed on the curb if it is in good condition and usable.

Gordichuk says, “You want to avoid placing mattresses, bedding, and furniture for fear of bed bugs. Also, things that are broken or unusable. Also, toilets that flush 13 liters or more are not acceptable.”

After the weekend, anything left on the curb must be brought in, as it will not be picked up by regular trash.

The next Giveaway will take place on the weekend of September 14-15, 2024.
